The Duke and Duchess of Sussex very noticeably unfollowed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Instagram – but there is an explanation.
On Wednesday Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had unfollowed several royal accounts, including Kensington Royal – which is Kate Middleton and Prince William’s account.
They also unfollowed Clarence House (Prince Charles and Camilla), Prince Andrew Princess Eugenie and even The Royal Family account.
But Harry and Meghan explained in a long post, that they are now only following accounts who promote mental health, for Mental Health Awareness Month.
“To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection…to not just hear each other, but to listen,” they wrote.
Over night their account went from 23 to just 16.
Accounts the couple are now following include Heads Together, which is the royals’ mental health initiative, as well as Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul Sunday talk show.
Each month, the Royals will change the accounts they follow to draw attention to a different theme or cause.
Just five hours after their account went live last month, @SussexRoyal had already amassed 1 million followers, a milestone that Guinness World Records said was reached in record time.
Many fans believe it is Meghan herself who is writing their posts.
