Royal Family publish list of social media guidelines to tackle online trolls

The Royal Family have published a list of social media guidelines to tackle online trolls.

The set of guidelines come shortly after it was revealed that Kensington Palace’s social media team were reportedly going through “hundreds of thousands” of hateful online comments about Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.

The Royal Family have now issued a list of guidelines for interacting with the official accounts of The Royal Family, Clarence House and Kensington Palace on social media.

“We ask that anyone engaging with our social media channels shows courtesy, kindness and respect for all other members of our social media communities,” the guidelines state.

“In order to help create this safe environment we have set out some guidelines which apply to any engagement with us or other members of the community on any of our social media channels.”

The list states that comments must not be “offensive, threatening, abusive, hateful” amongst other things.

It also says that comments must not be “promote discrimination” of any sort or “be off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible”.
