Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pay sweet tribute to Princess Diana

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have paid tribute to Princess Diana on social media.

The couple today posted a powerful Instagram post supporting LGBTQ+ rights.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a photograph of Harry’s late mother as they celebrated the first day of Pride Month.

The couple shared this collage on Instagram

Sharing a post with their 8 million Instagram followers, they posted a photo collage which included a photo of Harry’s mum meeting with patient Gerard McGrath at London Lighthouse in 1996.

Princess Diana had been at the opening of the UK’s first purpose- built HIV/Aids unit, back in 1987.

It was an iconic visit, as it was the day Princess Diana, in front of the media, she shook the hand of a man suffering with the illness.

At the time many wore gloves when they shook a hand of a HIV/Aids patient, but Diana made a point of not wearing gloves to challenge the idea that the illness could be passed on by touch.

She did so without gloves, challenging the notion that HIV/Aids was passed from person to person by touch.

“Continuing with our tradition to rotate the accounts we follow based on causes and social issues that matter to us: For the month of June we “proudly” shine a light on PRIDE,” the Sussex Royal account posted today.

“This month we pay tribute to the accounts supporting the LGBTQ+ community – those young and old, their families and friends, accounts that reflect on the past and are hopeful for a deservedly more inclusive future.

“We stand with you and support you. Because it’s very simple: love is love.”

It comes after the couple last month unfollowed Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Instagram account, and instead now only follow accounts that help raise awareness with social issues.

Many believe it is Meghan herself that is writing the pair’s Instagram posts.

So far the couple have been using the account to share major news – including the announcement of their son’s name; Archie.
