Meghan Markle surprises Malawi school with empowering video speech

Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at a school in Malawi with Prince Harry, despite still being in South Africa.

It was originally thought that Prince Harry would be making the visit to the school alone, but Meghan found a way to be present.

The Duchess of Sussex surprised the gathered class of students by chatting with them via a live video link.

ITV’s Chris Ship was there to capture the moment, writing: “They are promoting girls’ education in one of the most poor countries in the world.”

The school is a part of the monarch’s initiative CAMFED, a charity that works to keep girls in school and provide them with an education.

“These CAMA women are part of a major network across Africa, which has 140,000 members and 17,500 in Malawi alone. These positive female role models, leaders and entrepreneurs, are working to lift their communities out of poverty,” reads a post on the couple’s Instagram page @sussexroyal.

“Money distributed by CAMA goes directly to each of their alumni, who then use their own resources to support another three children to attend school.”

In a second video by the charity, the students can be heard singing “Duchess Wathu, Duchess Wamayankho” which means “Our Duchess, Duchess with the solutions.”

Meghan is reported to have given an empowering talk to the young women gathered.

Tomorrow, Harry will spend more time in Malawi, visiting Liwonde National Park.

Meanwhile, Meghan will remain in Johannesburg with Prince Archie.
