Today FM setting spies on Ray D'Arcy's new RTE show in case he 'steals' his old items

Today FM are set to monitor Ray D’Arcy’s new RTE show to see if he uses items copyrighted by his old station.

Bosses at the commercial station which he left earlier this year have the rights to his popular items, including the Odd-One-Out Quiz and Fix It Friday.

An RTE source said: “Today FM might have lost Ray D’Arcy but items like the Odd-One-Out Quiz and Fix It Friday remain the property of Today FM, meaning they cannot be used on another station.”

It means that Ray would have to rename a number of items he’s known for if he wants to bring them to Radio 1 – where listeners have been promised a similar show.

A spokeswoman said: “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Listeners can expect something very familiar from Ray on RTE to what they heard on Today FM.”

Previously, Strawberry Alarm Clock hosts Colm Hayes and Jim Jim Nugent had these issues when they jumped ship from FM104 to 2FM in 2007.

Issues: Colm and Jim Jim had to rename features when they left FM104 | RTE

They had to rename their breakfast show and characters used on air because FM104 held the rights.

An insider told the Irish Sun: “It was very confusing for listeners because all these familiar characters suddenly got given new names but it had to be done.

“If Ray’s new show is as close to his Today FM show as RTE claim, and items similar to the Odd-One-Out Quiz and Fix It Friday pop up, Today FM will certainly be interested.”
