2FM vow to stick by Ryan Tubridy – as it's rumoured he's off to Radio 1

RTE have vowed to stick by Ryan Tubridy, who is tipped to be dropped from 2FM – and jetted back in to Radio 1.

The Late Late Show host saw his morning show’s ratings slide yet again last week – losing 4,000 to 144,000 in the latest radio figures.

And since moving to 2FM, he has seen a massive 152,000 people switch off from the 296,000 who were listening to Gerry Ryan before his death.

Now Tubridy – who is paid €495,000 a year – is reported to be lined up to replace Ronan Collins between 12-1pm after the low figures sealed his fate.

Bosses were rumoured to be unimpressed by the news he isn’t even the most popular show on 2FM anymore – being overtaken by Nicky Byrne.

“This can’t go on. It’s not good for 2fm, but most of all, it’s not good for Ryan who is constantly linked to dropping figures,” a source told the Irish Sun.

However a 2FM spokesperson has poured cold water over claims his time is up – insisting he won’t be moving just yet.

They said: “There are no plans to move Ryan Tubridy from 2FM. Ryan Tubridy will be on 2FM in the new season.

“Ronan Collins hosts the number one music show in the country on RTE Radio 1. His top radio programme will continue on Radio 1 in the new season.”

Insiders revealed that Ronan’s contract with RTE is up this year and – at the age of 61 – would be happy to be moved to weekends.

Bosses also believe that Tubridy will fit in at Radio 1 in a way he never did at 2FM.

This week he is filling in for Simon Mayo on BBC Radio 2, with a music style that he could bring to Radio 1.

Last weekend, Tubridy admitted he’d be happy to move if 2FM boss Dan Healy wanted it, adding he doesn’t fit into the “world order” of the new station.

Previously RTE denied Hector was leaving 2FM – a month before he actually left the station.
