Ray D'Arcy's move 'home' to RTE has given staff reason to celebrate this Xmas – 2FM boss

Ray D’Arcy’s move back to RTE has given staff a reason to celebrate this Christmas, according to the head of 2FM.

Earlier this month, the State broadcaster announced they had persuaded Ray to leave his Today FM show after 14 years and take over from Derek Mooney in the afternoon.

And 2FM head Dan Healy admitted that it has boosted morale to the highest it has ever been in their radio department.

He said: “Someone like Ray committing to RTE radio is brilliant – morale in there is very high.

“I’m only there a year-and-a-half and the energy in there was positive before this but this really is immense.”

And Dan admitted that it will help increase Ryan Tubridy’s listeners in the morning with their bitter rivalry now over.

He said: “I think Ray can grow and bring 25 to 44-year-olds into Radio 1 and it’s a nice opportunity for us on 2fm at 9am as well.”

He also told the Herald he was looking forward to welcome back Louise McSharry to 2FM after her cancer treatment.

He added: “We’re thinking she’ll be back on May 1 but it could be sooner if she’s able.”
