Miriam O'Callaghan begged Ray D'Arcy for YEARS to return to RTE

RTE star Miriam O’Callaghan has revealed she used to beg Ray D’Arcy for years to come back to RTE.

The Primetime presenter told Goss.ie he is a “brilliant addition” to the station, after leaving Today FM for a shock move to Radio 1.

She added: “I’ve been a friend of his for a long time. I’m incredibly fond of him. I used to say to him for years, why don’t you come back?

“And then he did. I think it’s great and he seems very happy about it. He’s incredibly popular.”

Meanwhile, the mother of eight said she thought the UTV Ireland news “looked really professional and polished” after its debut this week.

And Miriam revealed she would love to “sit down and have glass of wine” with UTV Ireland news anchor Alison Comyn.

She added: “I think she’s really superb, I didn’t know much of her before and I thought she was really impressive and I like her as well.

“And I think I could sit down and have a glass of wine with her and get on really well with her.

But asked if she was worried about the new channel – which launched on New Year’s Day – the RTE Radio 1 presenter said she’s “always liked competition.”

She added: “I’ve said that for years, I believe it ups everybody’s game and I think instead of creating problems, it ups everybody’s standards.

“So I’ve no worries about our figures, I love competition so long as we win.”
