Lottie Ryan: 'Dad Gerry would be so proud of me for getting own radio show like him'

Lottie Ryan has told how her legendary father Gerry Ryan would be “proud” of her for getting her own radio show.

The 28-year-old started presenting the Early Early Breakfast Show a number of months ago – following in her 2FM host father’s footsteps.

Speaking about how she thinks Gerry would feel if he was still around, the emotional star told Goss.ie: “Obviously I think he would be proud of me.”

But Lottie – who also teaches dancing – insisted that it is impossible to compare her show or presenting skills with Gerry’s at the moment.

“I don’t think that you can compare the two of us because we are completely different,” she said.

“He had a primetime radio show and I’m on at six in the morning with a music show. I don’t think that it would be fair to compare.

“But obviously if I have half of his talent within me then I hope to have a very good career.”

And talking at 2FM’s summer launch, Lottie said she doesn’t find it odd to hear her dad constantly mourned and talked about inside RTE.

She added: “It’s not like it’s unusual for people to bring him up or to talk about him here [in RTE]. So it’s not really that different.”

And for now, Lottie insisted she is happy just to concentrate on her weekend morning slot – and isn’t pining for a similar show to Gerry.

She said: “I think for the moment my ambition is just the Early Early Breakfast Show and making it everything it can be, and as great as it can be. And that’s where my focus is for now.”

Before his death in April 2010, Gerry had one of the biggest radio shows in the country with nearly 300,000 listeners.
