Anton Savage on new Today FM slot: 'I knew I'd got the job, thanks to the BOOKIES'

Anton Savage has admitted he realised he had bagged Ray D’Arcy’s job – after so many bookies gave him good odds.

The TV personality revealed that after finding out book makers were tipping him to replace Ray on Today FM, he started believing it himself.

“I was hugely surprised to see the odds,” he said.

“I’ve never been on a bookie’s list for anything in my life. I was very flattered. My experience is that the bookies are usually right — so that was the first indication that I had that I was in with a good chance.”

The new Anton Savage show will begin in just a few weeks time, and will go up against Ryan Tubridy on 2FM and Pat Kenny on Newstalk.

Ray has a strong listenership of 221,000 on Today FM, with worries listeners will move to RTE radio, now that Ray’s afternoon show starts next month.

“I’ll be busy bedding down the show and after 18 months I’ll start looking at the figures,” he told the Irish Sun.
