Galway has been named Ireland’s European Capital of Culture.
After working tiressly for their bid to win the competition, the city was named officially today – beating some seriously stiff competition.
Other Irish cities had bid for the same title, including Limerick, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford but the West Coast county took home the ultimate title.
They will now bid to become the European City of Culture for 2020.
Hundreds took to Twitter to share their delight at the news, with crowds hitting the streets of Galway in celebration.
