X Factor's Eoghan Quigg wants to represent Ireland in Eurovision

Former X Factor finalist Eoghan Quigg is bidding to represent Ireland at the Eurovision this year.

The Derry star, 21, has been revealed as one of five acts hoping to fly the tricolour in Denmark.

He said: “I really hope I do get a chance to represent Ireland – the Eurovision has always been a big thing for our family, it’s sacred.

“And this – when I was given the opportunity – just seemed like a great thing to get involved with.”

Hopeful Eoghan – who is known for kissing Diana Vickers on the X Factor – has been picked by mentor Mark Murphy who feels his fame will help.

X Factor: Performing Never Forget on the show

He said: “Personally, I feel he came out of the X Factor with his head held high. He made a bit of money, went back and got his education.

“I think there’s something there that people will latch on to, people will want to see how he’s changed from the X Factor.

“When he came out of the show, it was crazy. Everybody wants a piece out of you. Now I think he has unfinished business to do, because he never spoke up when he was in with the record company.

“He just went along and did what he was told. This is his time because some people may think he’s a failure, and now he can prove them wrong.”

Hopeful: Kasey Smith wants to redeem herself

Now Eoghan will go up against Kasey Smith – who lost out at the Eurosong last year – as part of Can-linn who were picked by Hazel Kaneswaran, who is the sister of The Wanted’s Siva.

Aslan star Billy McGuinness chose Laura O’Neill, Valerie Roe chose her sister Patricia Roe, while Cormac Battle went with Be Mine.

All five songs will be first broadcast on Rick O’Shea’s show at 2pm tomorrow, while the public will get to vote for who to send to Copenhagen on the Late Late Show on February 28.
