Singer Mary Byrne sees profits drop – earning €12.60 an hour since X Factor glory

X Factor star Mary Byrne has seen her fortune drop from €55,113 to just €26,223 in just one year.

The Dublin singer is now earning an average of €12.60 an hour, according to new accounts.

According to the Irish Sun, the former Tesco worker earned €26,223 in 2013. But a spokesperson for the singer said Mary is just a victim of the downturn.

“There has been a general downturn in the music industry in Ireland. Mary took a lot of time off to record an album and  more on other projects,” a spokesperson explained.

“She now enjoys her time singing and pursuing other avenues including a lot of TV and radio.”

Mary, 55, came to fame in 2010 when she starred on the X Factor and soon bagged a record deal with Sony.

“Mary chose to return to live in Ireland instead of staying in the UK where she could have earned far more,” her spokesperson added.

Accounts show Mary had €97,075 in the bank at the end of 2013.
