Sile Seoige wants to have a music career – after cancer battle inspired her to follow heart

TV star Sile Seoige has admitted she would love a music career.

The ex-Newstalk presenter has put together a charity Christmas single – Maybe This Christmas – which is released on Friday.

Now the 35-year-old, from Galway, wants to put her singing to use in the future.

She said: “I was reared with singing. I’m from the west of Ireland and sing-songs are part of that upbringing.

“My dad sings, we all sing. If I’m totally honest, what brings me the most joy is music.

“You should probably try and follow what your heart says and that’s what it’s saying to me.

“If I was lucky enough to explore it, I’d love to.”

Stars including Kathryn Thomas, Brian Kennedy and Caroline Morahan all took part in her single – which was inspired by her battle with cancer two years ago.

“I had thyroid cancer. What I didn’t realise until the surgeon explained, the tumour was big and was sitting on my vocal chord,” she said.

“I felt it was a dramatic full-on message: ‘You love to sing and you’re not doing anything with it. We’re going to teach you a little lesson.’ I learnt that lesson.”
