Missy Elliot pays tribute to Aaliyah on the 17th Anniversary of her death

Missy Elliot has paid tribute to Aaliyah on the 17th anniversary of her death.

The ‘More Than A Woman’ singer died in a plane crash on the 25th of August 2001, as she returned from the Marsh Harbour Airport on the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas.

She had just finished filming the video for ‘Rock The Boat’ and was only 22-years-old at the time of the fatal accident.

“Aaliyah, we miss you so much but your legacy will live on forever and ever,” Missy Elliot wrote, along with a frowny face as she sported clothing featuring the late singer’s face.

The video shows Missy Elliot writing a letter to the deceased artist which she accompanied with a touching caption.

“Aaliyah (Babygirl) I can only imagine how great you would be today winning oscars????& creating sick music & still setting fashion trends!”

“Your mom & brother @RAD_6 & your fans been holding it down 4 u❤️you will always be A One in A Million???????? sleep peacefully angel Babygirl????????”
