Mercury Prize 2016 shortlist REVEALED

The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize have released the shortlist of “Albums of the Year.” The albums are all in the running for the prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the industry.

Artists like David Bowie, Bat for Lashes, and Radiohead all made the cut.

David Bowie’s album Blackstar was released only two days before he passed away in January.

The judging panel explained how they picked the shortlisters. “This is music to make sense of our unsettling times – heartfelt, angry, thoughtful and thrilling.

“The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ are marked by their musical ambitions, unexpected instrumentation and breathtaking arrangements.” Twelve acts made the shortlist.

Music fans can vote online for the first of 6 finalists for the coveted overall prize. Anyone can vote on the Mercury Prize’s website here. The final winner will be announced at a show at Hammersmith Apollo on September 15.
