Last call for Arthur's Day as it looks to be scrapped this year

Arthur’s Day looks unlikely to be returning this year, as bosses consider scrapping it after a backlash.

The Diageo-run night was attacked by politicians and musicians last year over fears it was adding to our drinking culture.

Now a Guinness spokesperson has refused to confirm it will be returning and told The Star that it is “being reviewed”.

They said: “Arthur’s Day is currently being reviewed. We will be in touch when the review has been completed.”

Critic: Christy Moore wants event scrapped | VIPIRELAND.COM

Last year’s event saw artists including The Script, Kodaline and Emeli Sande who all played in smaller pubs as part of the day.

However musician Christy Moore was given huge airtime after claiming it was just an “alcoholiday” that should be scrapped.

He said: “I would hope there won’t be any future Arthur’s Day events. I would be happy to see it suspended.”

The Kildare star added that it was a “happy clappy advertising scheme” by Diageo to “flog their alcohol”.
