Kodaline: 'Sacha Baron Cohen heckled us… but Ed Sheeran is so normal'

Kodaline star Mark Prendergast has revealed the band were heckled by Sacha Baron Cohen when performing in Los Angeles.

The Dubliners put on a small gig during their time staying with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and his fiancee Courteney Cox.

And guitarist Mark – who says the A-list couple “are friends now” – admits the band were shocked when “Borat” turned up to the show with Friends actress Courteney.

He said: “We played a little acoustic gig and she said, ‘I’m bringing some friends’. So Sacha Baron Cohen turned up with Isla Fisher!

“He came up to us at the gig and it was Borat, like. He was really funny, really cool.” Drummer Vinny added: “He heckled us as well. Which was alright by us.”

And frontman Steve Garrigan told Hot Press that isn’t their only celebrity moment.

He said: “We’ve had those moments every time we play in LA. Nicole Scherzinger? That was random.

“From the stage, there was a balcony at the very back and she was bang centre in the middle. There was a light on her, singing every word. Like an angel.”

And Kodaline were also stunned to see how “normal” Ed Sheeran when they met him properly after a gig.

Mark said: “After the show he invited us all back to his hotel. He was really, really sick, just sitting there in his dressing gown.

“I don’t think he drinks but he was just like, ‘Lads, help yourself to all the drink’. He sat there for an hour and a half talking.”
