Kathryn Thomas calls on The Voice to hire Mary Black as new coach after Jamelia's exit

The Voice host Kathryn Thomas has called on producers to hire Mary Black for the new series of the show.

The RTE star admitted she was disappointed to see that British popstar Jamelia has backed out of the forthcoming season.

And Kathryn said that given her first choice Sinead O’Connor isn’t available that Mary Black – the mum of The Coronas frontman Danny O’Reilly – would be perfect.

She told Goss.ie: “I still think Sinead O’Connor would be great, I’d like an Irish singer.

“I think the likes of Mary or Francis Black for more of a traditional vibe like what Sharon Corr brought to the show, would work.”

And Kathryn is also holding out hope that Una Foden will sign up for the series, given The Saturdays are on a break.

She said: “Una would be brilliant, she’s succeeded as been part of a phenomenally successful girl group, she’s hot and she has great fashion taste.

“I’d love to see her on the panel. If you’re going to have Una, I’d be all for that – once there’s good Irish representation, three out of four coaches, that’s strong, and then bring someone else in.”

Meanwhile, Kathryn has insisted she has no plans to marry boyfriend Padraig McLoughlin – who she has been dating since last year.

She said: “We haven’t talked about it yet, it’s still early days… [the relationship] is going great, I would be the messy one, definitely.

“I think because Padraig does what he does with his restaurant business he’s super organised. And I’m kept when it comes to food.

“He’s become used to me throwing down coats and bags everywhere, but anytime there’s a free day I’m told to do a house clean. I wouldn’t be a domestic goddess.”
