Irish X Factor contestant Chris Leonard: 'My old band didn't last long – but this one will'

He’s apart of X Factor’s first ever eight-piece boyband, and Irish star Chris Leonard has revealed he believes the band will last a very long time.

Chris, 18, from Ballivor Co Meath, made it to bootcamp before with his former band 5th Base, but the band didn’t stay together.

The all Irish band didn’t make it past boot camp last year, and Chris was devastated.

“Although the band finished soon after that it gave me a lot of experience and I think it helped me,” he said.

“It’s always heartbreaking when somebody tells you it’s the end of the road when you’re doing something – but I think that has helped me come back stronger this year.”

“My first band didn’t last too long but I have a good feeling that this one is going to last for a very long time,” Chris admitted.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Chris said this year he was sure he wanted to be a solo artist, but now he loves being in a band.

“I went into X Factor this year as a solo artist and I got told no which was heartbreaking,” he said.

“I remember crying into my shirt – it was really tough to take,” she said.

But Chris was delighted when Simon Cowell decided to put him into a group instead.

“Originally the band was only supposed to be four or five members but they couldn’t separate us because our bond and our friendship already was really strong.”
