Danny O'Donoghue temporarily quit The Script to care for dying mum

The Script star Danny O’Donoghue has told how he temporarily quit the band – to care for his dying mum.

The Dubliner singer dropped everything and rushed back home after his mum Ailish was given just weeks to live.

Doctors feared for the worst after the 67-year-old had a brain aneurysm, with Danny thankful his bandmates told him to go care for her.

“It wasn’t even a conversation with the band – everyone was just like, ‘Drop everything, go and do it,’ he said.

“The best part about being in this band is that there’s a business side but if something like that happens, there’s no questions, we just do what we need to do.

“At my request, the management wouldn’t call, people wouldn’t call – they shielded everything from me.

“And there were a lot of things coming in at that time. More power to them.

“Thank the Lord she’s doing amazing now. Anybody who’s been through what my mum’s been through knows it’s a long, hard road.

“But we’re on the road and she’s doing better than expected.”

However Danny admitted it was odd being back staying in his childhood bedroom.

He added: “It’s really weird – it’s like The Script never happened.”
