1D's Niall Horan: 'I may be a millionaire – but I miss playing pitch and putt with Mullingar pals'

One Direction star Niall Horan may be a millionaire, traveling around the world, and meeting the sexiest celebrities on the planet.

But the Mullingar lad admits he just misses his friends at home – and being able to play pitch and putt with them.

The 1D sensation – who turns 21 this weekend – tries to keep in contact as much as possible through a Whatsapp group.

“I like to stay in touch as much as I can. They do my head in; I have all the boys there in a WhatsApp group and the crap they are talking,” he said.

Homebird: Niall misses his pals – despite 1D success

“It’s horrible though when you are looking at it from the other side of the world, even though I am doing something that I really love and in these cool places.

“But they are just like, ‘Will you text me when it’s 6 o’clock and we’ll go to my house and we’ll order a pizza.’ Or ‘Do you wanna play pitch and putt?’ or ‘Are you boys playing golf today?’

“Something stupid like that and they’re the kind of things that you miss — you look at the phone and you’re just like, ‘Aw Jesus.'”

The Kiss You singer is constantly praised for being extremely down-to-earth – staying in touch with old pals and not being affected by the fame.

And Niall admits it is all down to his roots in Mullingar, which has stopped him changing over the last five years.

“I’d say half of it is down to my upbringing. That humble side of things, obviously Mullingar comes into play there a lot,” he told the Irish Sun.

“Then it just kind of depends on what kind of person you are — some people do things their own way and some people do things the right way.

“I just do it, I just have a laugh and get on with it. These are all incredible things that we’re doing but if you let them get to you then they’re going to mess with you.”

And Niall refuses to let being stalked by fans even get him down – knowing they’d be “fecked” without them.

He said: “It can be a little bit frustrating at times but that’s just the passion that the fans have and we would be nothing without them — we’d be fecked.

“We’re used to it now, we’ve been touring for the last two years, basically non-stop most of the year which we love, that’s why we keep doing it.”
