Transformers star Jack Reynor bags new role in harrowing asylum film

Transformers star Jack Reynor has bagged another big-budget film – which is being shot in Ireland.

The Wicklow actor has signed on for The Secret Scripture, which will begin shooting in September.

The 22-year-old will star alongside US actress Rooney Mara in the big-screen version of Sebastian Barry’s best-selling book.

It follows Roseanne, who doesn’t know her exact age, as she tells her harrowing journey in asylums in Ireland over six decades.

Other stars in negotiations to star alongside Jack and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star include Vanessa Redgrave and Jeremy Irons.

Troubled actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain had been lined up for parts, but were forced to pull out.

And an insider told the Herald that his involvement will ensure he isn’t just stuck in action roles forever, and he can “show his versatility and range”.

The film, which has been worked on for the last two years, will be shot fully in Ireland.

It is being produced by Noel Pearson – better known for My Left Foot.

Previously Jack admitted that he was doing the Transformers role, to give him a chance at being able to take less well paid smaller roles.
