Meet Sir Daniel Day Lewis – after he is to receive a knighthood

Daniel Day Lewis has admitted he is “entirely amazed” after learning he will become a Sir.

The Wicklow-based star will receive a knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, it has been announced.

Now he follows in the footsteps of  Sir Ian McKellen and former James Bond star, Sir Roger Moore.

But Daniel – who is especially known for his role in My Left Foot – said he was “entirely amazed” to learn that he will become a Sir.

He said: “I’m entirely amazed and utterly delighted in equal measure.”

It adds to him winning an Oscar for Best Actor three times throughout his career.

Other actors being recognised include Angelina Jolie, Judi Dench and Helen Mirren.
