Irish director Gerard Barrett has been tipped to become one of the LA 'stars of tomorrow'

Kerry film director Gerard Barrett has been listed as one of the LA Stars Of Tomorrow by popular film magazine Screen Daily.

The 27-year-old received an IFTA Rising Star Award for his highly acclaimed film Pilgrim Hill, which he made in his final year as his thesis while studying in Tralee IT.

Screen Daily included him in their list of stars who they predict will make it in Hollywood.

Speaking to the magazine Gerard said he doesn’t take his success for granted.

“I can’t tell you where I want to go because I probably haven’t settled on what I really am yet, in a sense.”

“I don’t take it for granted. There are so many people out there trying to break into the industry. It’s difficult and I am so honoured,” he said.

Gerard’s latest film – Glassland which stars Transformers actor Jack Reynor – received rave reviews by critics after it’s world premier at Galway’s Film Fleadh.

Jack stars alongside British actor Will Poulter and The Holiday star Toni Collette .

Glassland is set in Dublin and is about a taxi driver (Reynor) who tries to save his mother from addiction.

“What I’m after is to show how we handle struggle and how we keep going through the worst times,” Gerard added.
