Irish director Gerard Barrett gets Sundance debut with new movie Glassland

Kerry director Gerard Barrett is headed for the Sundance film festival with his latest movie Glassland.

Gerard, 27, will make his debut at the highly acclaimed festival in Utah next month.

The film has already a hit at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, and has now been selected as one of the 12 films for the World Cinema Dramatic Competition.

Glassland follows the story of a young man trying to cope with an alcoholic mother in Tallaght, Dublin.

Transformers star Jack Reynor plays the lead in the movie, alongside Toni Colette and Will Poulter.

“It’s such an honour and privilege to take this film to Sundance. To be in competition at Sundance, really is something special,” Gerard said.
