Michael Fassbender has revealed he missed his then girlfriend Lupita Nyong’o toasting him on stage at the Oscars – because he was “taking a piss” and getting a drink.
The Hollywood star admitted he knew she was going to take home the Best Supporting Actress gong for her role alongside him in 12 Years A Slave.
But the Kerry actor revealed for the first time he wasn’t there to see her call him “her rock” after misjudging when he needed to be around.
“I wasn’t there! I went outside to go to the toilet. I was taking a piss. And I did have a sneaky vodka tonic,” he said.
“But I got totally caught out, because I was thinking that category was going to be way down the line.

“And then, of course, you can’t get back in until it’s a commercial break, so I watched it backstage. I felt pretty embarrassed about that.”
And Michael – who claimed he “knew” he wasn’t going to win Best Supporting Actor given he was up against Jared Leto – added that it does affect him when he loses at award ceremonies.
“The fact of the matter is, of course it affects you — because of course everybody likes approval,” he told Details.
“That’s just human nature—so you’d be lying to say it doesn’t.”
