The actor has reportedly been shortlisted

Donald Glover is reportedly on the shortlist to play the next Willy Wonka.

Warner Bros. are in the process of developing a prequel to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, which will explore the classic character’s origin story.

Collider has reported that Donald, who most recently starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story, is on the shortlist to land the lead role.

The site has also reported that Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller are also in contention.

Paddington director Paul King will helm the project, and Saturday Night Live’s Simon Rich will write the script.

The first film, adapted from Roald Dahl’s Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, was released in 1971, with Gene Wilder playing Willy Wonka.

Then in 2005, Tim Burton’s take on the classic tale was released in cinemas, and Johnny Depp played the iconic role of Willy Wonka.
