Disney’s Moana breaks HUGE record

The top spot was previously held by Frozen

Disney’s Moana has broken a huge record and trumped previous record holder Frozen.

The new animated film made $15.6million on its first day of screenings at 3,875 locations – more than any pre-Thanksgiving opener.

It’s beaten Frozen by just a few extra hundred thousands, who made $15.1m in 2013 on it’s opening day.

Record breaker: Moana brought in more cash on it’s opening day than Frozen | DISNEY

With Moana’s amazing opening day takings, there’s a good chance that it may beat Frozen’s $93.4million opening weekend takings when it opens in all major theatres across the five-day Thanksgiving period.

The new film tells the story about a girl, Moana, in the Pacific islands who embarks on an oceanic journey to save her people.

She comes across the shape-shifting legendary demi-god Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, who helps her on her quest.

Moana hits Irish cinemas on December 2nd.
