Brendan O’Carroll making new film next year – but it has nothing to do with Mrs Brown’s Boys

Brendan O’Carroll will film a new movie next year, but it won’t have anything to do with Mrs Brown’s Boys.

The comedian is set to develop the first play that her ever wrote into a film, as he sets his sights on a new venture away from the success of his hit sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys and Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie.

According to the Herald, the play is titled The Course, and was written in 1994. It tells the story of a conman running a course on Positive Mental Attitude.

Brendan’s daughter, Fiona, has revealed that when he first debuted the play 22 years ago, she begged him to let her play the part of a prostitute – despite being just 14-years-old.

“I remember he was doing open auditions and I really wanted that part as she was sassy and amazing and she turns her whole life around. She brought so much to the show, it was a fun part.

“But my dad was like, ‘Are you crazy? If I let a 14-year-old play a prostitute there will be murder!’ I remember standing outside the auditions giving the evil eye to everyone going for the part. So maybe this time around, I’ll get the part in the movie version as I’m definitely old enough now,” she said.

Brendan took on the new project, which will be co-produced by the BBC, because work on the Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie sequel was brought to a halt due to budget issues.

“The Brexit result came in when we were trying to put the whole budget together and time was ticking on and Dad couldn’t take the chance of it not working out and agreed to do the other work,” Fiona said.

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie took in more than €26 million worldwide, despite being made on a tiny budget of €5 million.
