WATCH: Ryan Gosling tells sweet story of when his mum met Meryl Streep

The actor wanted to make sure his mum had a good night

Ryan Gosling told a sweet story of when his mother Donna Gosling met Meryl Streep.

The actor sat on Graham Norton’s couch with his La La Land co-star Emma Stone and spoke about bringing his mother to award ceremonies – and her beehive.

Recalling a certain awards show, the former Disney star revealed that his mother’s friend told her that she should have her hair up in a beehive because it was going to be all the rage on the red carpet.

However, this was not the case and she was the only one rocking the high up ‘do.

Fortunately Ryan was quick thinking and leaned in to actress Meryl to ask her would she compliment his mother on her hairstyle during a commercial break.

Meryl obliged and, according to Ryan, said “You know I was going to do a beehive and I wish I had.”

With Ryan and Emma on the Graham Norton Show was Live By Night’s Ben Affleck and Sienna Miller who also talk about bringing their mother’s to award shows.

Ben chatted about bringing his mother Christine Boldt to the 1998 Oscars with close pal and actor Matt Damon, who also brought his mother.

“We both took our moms which only fuelled rumours of our sexuality at the time,” he joked.

“[The Oscars] do a weird thing where they put big name placards… so it’ll say Jack Nicholson or Ryan Gosling.

“And my mom was obsessed by that, and went around taking pictures – like, you do know that’s not the real Jack Nicholson?
