SNL ended its 42nd season with a bang – and a lot of laughs.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson hosted the finale and was joined by some special guests, but it was his opening monologue that really set tongues wagging.

The actor and former wrestler hilariously announced his plan to run for President in 2020, and was joined by his “running mate” Tom Hanks.

“It’s funny, a lot of people have been telling me lately that I should run for president of the United States,” he told Alec Baldwin.

“It’s very flattering, but tonight I want to put this to rest and just say once and for all: I’m in. Starting tonight, I am running for the president of the United States.”

He also shared: “Now, in the past, I never would’ve considered running for president. I didn’t think I was qualified at all, but now I’m actually worried that I’m too qualified.”

To announce his running mate, The Rock told the audience, “Like me, he’s very well-liked. He’s charming, universally adored by pretty much every human alive.”

After Tom came on stage wearing a robe to match the special one The Rock was sporting in honour of joining the SNL hosts’ Five-Timers Club, he said, “Dwayne, I could not possibly turn this down. I’m in. Let’s go!”
