WATCH: Kim Kardashian West meets freed Alice Marie Johnson

This is the first time the pair have met in person

NBC

Kim Kardashian West has met Alice Marie Johnson, whom she helped free from prison.

Kim, 37, met with Donald Trump at the beginning of June in the White House to ask him to pardon Ms Johnson, who had been ordered to serve a life sentence for a once off drug offence.

After his meeting with the reality star, Trump granted clemency to the 63-year-old, and Kim called Ms Johnson herself to reveal the news that she had been released.

However, the pair were yet to meet in person until Wednesday, when they sat down for an exclusive interview with the Today Show.

Speaking about her involvement in Ms Johnson’s case, Kim said, “It became this mission that I just didn’t want to give up.”

The mother of three tweeted out her disgust at Ms Johnsons sentence last October, and it seems she was inspired to take action.

She told Today how she got in touch with her lawyer and said, “Is there anything we can do, can we hire a different attorney, what are the options here?”

The KUWTK star revealed she contacted Ivanka Trump first, and from there got a meeting with Donald Trump.

Ms Johnson, who had been in prison for 20 years, revealed in the interview that she didn’t even know who Kim was.

“I did not know her name. I didn’t know Kim,” she said.

Speaking about her release, Alice said, “When she said that [I could go home], I went into full-fledged pentecostal holy dance.”

“I love this woman,” Kim told her. “I love this lady,” Alice said in response as they embraced.
