WATCH: Ellen DeGeneres ended up in the emergency room after two glasses of wine

Ellen DeGeneres suffered a wine-related injury over the weekend.

In the opening monologue for her talk show on Tuesday, the comedian explained that she had to go to the emergency room after dislocating the tip of her finger.

“So, you know how in gymnastics when you do a one-handed cartwheel and you have to spread the weight evenly between all your fingers? Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door,” she said.

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi were arriving back home after a dinner party when the accident occurred.

“The dogs were so excited to see us and I caught the lip of the top step. I was a foot away from the door and I fell into the door and it did something to my finger, I knew something was wrong,” she said.

The talk show host thanked the staff at UCLA medical centre, and particularly her nurse Tammy, for treating her, and revealed she had to have her finger snapped back into place.

“Before they did it, I was in incredible pain and Tammy said, ‘Do you want a shot?’ And I said, ‘No, I had two glasses of wine—that’s what got me into this mess in the first place, Tammy,'” Ellen joked.

“She meant a shot to numb my finger. She said, ‘You’re gonna feel a little prick.’ This is a daytime show—you make up your own joke there.”

Ellen, who naturally was recognised by some of her fans in the emergency room, also shared photos of her dislocated finger and the X-ray and apologised to any “squeamish” audience members.
