Tributes pour in as Star Wars actor Alfie Curtis dies

Mark Hamill has paid tribute

Star Wars actor Alfie Curtis has sadly passed away at the age of 87.

The actor played the role of Dr. Evazan in 1977 film Episode IV: A New Hope.

His character famously threatened Luke Skywalker during the iconic Mos Eisley Cantina scene in the film.

After news of his death broke, Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the sci-fi franchise, paid tribute to Alfie.

“ALFIE CURTIS made the #StarWars Mos Eisley Cantina scene (one of the most memorable I’ve ever been a part of) even MORE memorable,” he wrote.

“As horrific as he was on-camera, off-camera he was funny, kind & a real gentleman. Thanks Alf – you’ll be missed. #RIP.”

Alfie’s character was killed by Alec Guinness’ character Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Alfie’s passing comes exactly one year after Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in Star Wars, died at the age of 60 in December 2016.

The London-born actor had also appeared in the 1980 film The Elephant Man, and the 80s UK TV series Cribb.
