The Weeknd sued over allegedly stealing ‘Starboy’ from comic book writer

The Weeknd is reportedly being sued for allegedly stealing Starboy from a comic book writer.

In June, the singer released a Starboy comic as part of a  collaboration with Marvel, but writer, Eymun Talasazan, has now claimed that the character was his creation.

According to TMZ, Eymun claims that he created Starboy in 2014, with the setting of his comic taking place in the world of R&B and rap artists.

According to documents from the lawsuit, the writer had talks with The Weeknd’s team in 2017 about developing the comic book together.

Eymun never ended up working with the musician, but filed for a trademark on the Starboy superhero last year and the celeb reportedly filed an opposition to the trademark.

The writer has now claimed that the singer’s comic has “near identical premise” as the plot/character he pitched to the 28-year-old’s team in 2017.

Eymun also alleged that he began developing the comic with the late Stan Lee in 2016.

“This is not a case about who created or first used the term ‘Starboy.’ This case will decide if a songwriter automatically (without filing a trademark application) obtains trademark protection for all later uses of a word, even if those later uses have nothing to do with albums, song titles, music or lyrics,” Eymun’s attorney told TMZ.

The writer is reportedly suing the singer for trademark infringement and wants each copy of The Weeknd’s comic to be destroyed.
