The Last Song author Nicholas Sparks congratulates Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth on their marriage

The couple first met on set of the hit movie

Nicholas Sparks has congratulated Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth on their marriage, ten years after they met while filming The Last Song.

The author penned the romantic-drama, which was adapted for the big screen in 2009, and released in 2010.

Miley was cast as the film’s lead, while Aussie actor Liam was cast as her hunky love interest – and the pair quickly hit it off both on and off screen.

The couple have been dating on-and-off ever since they filmed The Last Song, and initially got engaged in 2012 – before sadly splitting.

However, the pair reunited in 2016, and they finally tied the knot on Sunday at their home in Tennessee – delighting fans who have been following their love story since they both starred in The Last Song together.

One person who was particularly delighted by the news was Nicholas Sparks, who had a hand in casting the pair in the movie – which essentially brought them both together.

Taking to Twitter after the couple’s union started hitting headlines, Nicholas reposted a photo from their wedding day and wrote: “This makes me so happy. Congratulations @MileyCyrus and @LiamHemsworth. #TheLastSong.”

Miley then retweeted his sentiments with three heart emojis.
