Surviving R. Kelly documentary screening evacuated due to ‘anonymous gun threat’

The Surviving R. Kelly documentary premiere screening was evacuated after “several anonymous gun threats were called in.”

The documentary focuses on allegations made against rapper, R. Kelly, which include claims of criminal activities of mistreatment of women, sexual abuse and child pornography possession.

Lifetime’s new doc is made up of 50 interviews with various women who have made allegations about the rapper, including R&B artist, Sparkle, who testified against the 51-year-old back in 2008 over his alleged child pornography possession.

Several well-known celebs are also set to appear in the documentary, including John Legend and U.S. talk show host, Wendy Williams.

According to CNN, a number of anonymous phone calls were made threatening that if the screening continued, a gunman would open fire in the theatre.

“Calling in a non-credible threat to the NYPD to interrupt our screening is an act of desperation from people who don’t want these truths shared with the world,” the documentary’s executive producer told the broadcaster.

“The survivors who bravely sat with me for this docu-series know all too well what R. Kelly is capable of, every one of them has stories of being abused and controlled by him,” he claimed.

R. Kelly has denied all allegations made against him and released a song earlier this year called I Admit, in which he admitted infidelity, but denied all allegations of pedophilia and non-consensual sex.

Surviving R. Kelly will be released on 4th January 2019.
