See all the style from this year’s star-studded Met Gala

The Met Gala is the biggest night on any fashionista’s calendar and the stars were out in force on the red carpet this year.

The theme for 2017 was Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons, encouraging celebrities to go avant garde for the occasion.

Most of them opted against following the theme and instead chose pretty dresses, but some managed to knock it out of the park.

Unsurprisingly Rihanna went all out, putting many of her peers to shame in an extremely bizarre and colourful creation by Comme des Garçons.

While it was certainly a bold choice, the pop star was definitely sticking to the theme, adding sandals that tied up to her knees and striking pink eyeshadow.

Katy Perry was one of the first celebrities to arrive at the event, and commanded everyone’s attention in a red dress with a long train and veil.

Zendaya also picked an elaborate orange gown featuring a parrot print, while Janelle Monae looked incredible in a ruffled black and white design and Priyanka Chopra wore a dramatic trench coat gown.

Elsewhere Rita Ora was wrapped up in a big red bow, and Nicki Minaj showed off her legs in a dress that featured underwear and a red and black train.

Cara Delevingne also had one of the most striking looks of the night, as she showed off her freshly shaved head on the red carpet, and painted her bald head silver to match her plunging jumpsuit.

Other stars took the theme to mean they ought to pick something daring.

Kendall Jenner was practically naked in her see-through La Perla dress, and her close friend Bella Hadid wore a sheer and backless bodysuit by Alexander Wang.

Kylie Jenner also wore a “naked” style dress, while Kim Kardashian opted for a change from her usual look and picked a white Vivienne Westwood number.

The red carpet showcased not just some great style moments but also s0me adorable couples, and Chrissy Teigen and John Legend and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were everyone’s relationship goals as usual.

Meanwhile Selena Gomez and The Weeknd sent fans into a frenzy as they made their red carpet debut, and Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez were also walking their first red carpet together.

The annual event to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City is thrown by Anna Wintour and boasts a different theme every year.
