Sarah Hyland opens up about her health issues and suicidal thoughts

Sarah Hyland has opened up about her health issues and how she had suicidal thoughts.

The Modern Family star has vaguely referred to her difficult health in the past, but she has now finally addressed how she suffered from kidney dysplasia and had two kidney transplants from her father and younger brother.

The 28-year-old actress admitted that she was left “very depressed” when her first transplant, from her father, failed and felt like she had failed him.

“When a family member gives you a second chance at life, and it fails, it almost feels like it’s your fault. It’s not. But it does.”

“For a long time, I was contemplating suicide, because I didn’t want to fail my little brother like I failed my dad.”

Sarah revealed that she opened up to someone close to her about her suicidal thoughts and urged anyone going through something to open up.

“I had gone through my whole life of always being a burden, of always having to be looked after, having to be cared for. For anybody that wants to reach out to somebody but doesn’t really know how because they’re too proud or they think that they’ll be looked upon as weak, it’s not a shameful thing to say. It’s not a shameful thing to share.”

Despite Sarah going through these difficult times, she acknowledged how much she appreciated the support from her loved ones, including her famous beau, Wells Adams: “He’s seen me at my worst, I think that’s why I feel the most beautiful in his eyes, because he still finds me beautiful after seeing all that.”

“I’m stable. I’m thriving. I’m super happy with life,” she finished.
