Rihanna files lawsuit against her father after he uses ‘Fenty’ name for entertainment business

Rihanna has filed a lawsuit against her father, Ronald Fenty, after he used their surname for his own entertainment business.

The singer launched her Fenty makeup brand in September 2017 and according to BBC, Ronald also launched his Fenty Entertainment company in the same year.

“Defendants continue to this date to use their misrepresentations for their commercial advantage and to mislead the public,” the lawsuit states.

“This fraudulent conduct harms not only plaintiffs but the public at large and requires judicial intervention.”

The lawsuit also says that the 30-year-old owns trademarks in America for the Fenty name and that she sent “cease and desist” requests.

It has also been reported that when the entertainment business was launched, its website claimed that it was being launched “with” Rihanna, although she had no connection to the company.

According to the complaint, the business owners also attempted to negotiate a deal for the singer to perform fifteen shows in Latin America for $15m, without Rihanna’s consent.

The singer is said to have a strained relationship with her father and previously opened up about her tough childhood before her parents split when she was fourteen-years-old.
