George and Amal Clooney have donated $500,000 to a group of American students organising a protest called ‘March For Our Lives’.

The rally is being organised by high school students who survived last week’s mass shooting in Florida. The pro-gun control march will take place in Washington, DC on March 24.

Human rights lawyer Amal and Hollywood actor George donated $500,000 in the names of their eight-month-old twins, Alexander and Ella.

The couple, who plan to attend the march, declared their support for the group and its planned march, and added “our children’s lives depend on it.”

Since then, several celebrities have followed suit, including Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg.

Taking to Twitter, Oprah wrote, “George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to ‘March For Our Lives.’”

“These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.”

Steven Spielberg matched the donation made by the Clooneys, and said, “The young students in Florida and now across the country are already demonstrating their leadership with a confidence and maturity that belies their ages.”

“Kate [Kapshaw] and I applaud their efforts to take a stand for the benefit of this and future generations. They are an inspiration to us all, and we are joining in this movement with a donation of $500,000.”

The young students who organised the protest are Jacqueline Coren, Cameron Kasky, David Hogg, Alex Wind and Emma Gonzalez. The mass shooting at their high school killed 17 people.

Students across the US have been showing their support by staging walk outs from their schools to protest gun laws, and students even staged a ‘die-in’ where they lay on the ground outside of the White House two days ago.
