Netflix warn people against dangerous Bird Box challenge

The streaming platform's new movie has started a risky trend

Netflix have warned people against participating in the #BirdBoxChallenge, which has been trending online.

Right before Christmas, the streaming platform released the hit psychological thriller Bird Box, which sees Sandra Bullock play a mother who wears a blindfold to avoid seeing mysterious forces that cause people to commit suicide.

The post-apocalyptic thriller has inspired a series of memes online since it’s release, and now fans are participating in a new trend called the #BirdBoxChallenge – by taking on everyday tasks blindfolded.

However, the challenge has sparked serious concern as some participants have ended up running close to traffic, and getting themselves in dangerous situations.

tAfter noticing the trend going viral, Netflix took to Twitter to warn viewers against the dangerous challenge.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” the company tweeted.

“We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”
