Miley Cyrus has sparked criticism after she shared photos of herself on a Joshua tree.
The 26-year-old posed for a number of photos with the tree, but received some backlash due to how delicate Joshua trees are.
“Omg please stop posting these! Joshua trees are delicate, endangered and protected by state law! They are not for climbing,” one fan commented.
“RE WE REALLY GOING TO IGNORE THAT YOUR KILLING THESE JOSHUA TREES?!?! ☹️ they are easily damaged and Miley is just climbing all over them #SHAME,” another added.

“You are damaging the Joshua trees. Just because you are famous doesn’t mean you can do what you want. Hanging a hammock can break them in half imagine what you sitting on them can do!!”
In a statement amid the backlash, Mojave Desert Land Trust Executive Director, Geary Hund said: “We ask that Miley Cyrus consider her status as a public figure and remove this photo from her social media accounts in order to educate others and to prevent potential damage to Joshua trees.”
Miley has yet to respond to the backlash.
