Melissa Schuman files police report against Nick Carter following rape accusation

The singer claims Nick raped her back in 2002

Melissa Schuman filed a police report against Nick Carter on February 7, after she accused him of raping her back in 2002.

Speaking to Us Weekly, the singer said it was “the single most empowering” thing she has ever done for herself.

“I thought it was an option I could no longer pursue,” she said. “A huge thank you to RAINN for empowering me to take this step.” (RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization.)

The Santa Monica Police Department have also confirmed that they received a complaint filed against the Nick on Wednesday.

Melissa, who was a member of the teen girl group Dream, first accused the Backstreet Boys star of rape in a detailed blog post back in November.

She claimed that when she was 18, Nick, who was 22 at the time, performed oral sex on her, despite her refusals, in a bathroom at his apartment in Santa Monica.

Melissa also alleged that he forced her to do the same to him, before taking her into his bedroom and raping her.

Nick has vehemently denied the claims, and said in a statement, “I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations. Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual.”

“We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally.

“This is the first time that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”
