Meghan Markle’s friend has revealed how she reacted to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s tribute to her.

Back in February, Bey and Jay won a BRIT Award, and during their acceptance speech video – the couple recreated a scene from their ‘Apeshit’ music video, and replaced a portrait of the Mona Lisa with one of Meghan, by illustrator Tim O’Brien.

Beyoncé later shared a photo of them standing in front of the portrait, and wrote: “In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”

While Meghan didn’t respond to their gesture publicly, her longterm friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin has revealed how she reacted in private.

Speaking to Gayle King for the CBS special Meghan and Harry Plus One, which aired last week, Daniel confessed: “I sent her a pic.”

“I think it was a screen grab of the two of them in front of the portrait. I think all I wrote was, ‘Girl.'”

When asked what she replied, Daniel said: “She wrote me back like the big eye emoji.”

After the special aired on CBS last Friday, Meghan’s pal took to Instagram, and admitted that he was “hesitant” to speak out about the Duchess.

He wrote: “If it wasn’t for @gayleking I wouldn’t have had the courage to speak my truth about our dear friend.”

“I was hesitant to share this experience publicly today because I too have received so much negativity, trolling and threats for speaking out and sticking up for her. The passion and love the world has for them is immeasurable.

“But at the same time, let’s not forget they’re just as human as the rest of us. I can’t control what’s been said and twisted In the press, but I’m grateful she gave me this opportunity to try and change the perception. Thank you Gayle,” he added.
