Lady Gaga defends Cardi B following Grammys backlash

The rapper took home the award for Best Rap Album - and a lot of people weren't happy

Lady Gaga has defended Cardi B, after she received backlash following her big win at the Grammys.

Cardi became the first female solo artist to win the award for Best Rap Album at the Grammys on Sunday – but her win caused a serious stir amongst music fans.

Taking to Twitter following her historic win, Cardi’s new pal Lady Gaga defended the rapper by writing, “It is so hard to be a woman in this industry. What it takes, how hard we work through the disrespectful challenges, just to make art.”

“I love you Cardi. You deserve your awards. Let’s celebrate her fight. Lift her up & honor her. She is brave,” she added.

The news comes after Cardi posted an explosive rant on Instagram, after she was criticised for winning the Best Rap Album category, and beating stars like Travis Scott, Pusha T, Nipsey Hussle and Mac Miller.

In the since-deleted clip, Cardi raged, “You know what, it’s not my style for people to put other people down to uplift somebody else. That’s not my style and that’s not what I’m with and I don’t support that, however I’ve been taking a lot of s**t today.”

“I’m seeing a lot of bulls**t today and I saw a lot of s**t last night and I’m sick of this s**t. I work hard for my mother f**king album.”

She continued, “I f**king worked my ass off, locked myself in the studio for three months my n***a and then went to sleep in my own bed sometimes for four days straight—pregnant!”

“Some songs couldn’t even get on the f**king album because my nose was so f**king stuffy from my pregnancy.”

After Cardi posted her rant online, plenty of fellow rappers and musicians jumped to her defence, including Chance the Rapper and Jay Cole.
