Kim Kardashian says she had ‘innocent intentions’ with Kimono shapewear name

Kim Kardashian has opened up about the controversy surrounding her shapewear brand.

The reality TV queen gave the brand the moniker Kimono, which was met with widespread backlash as some found the name to be culturally insensitive to Japanese tradition.

Over on Twitter, Kim revealed that she is considering the name Solutionwear for her brand, but told  WSJ. Magazine that she had “innocent intentions” with the original name.

“You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper,” Kim, who graces the digital cover of the mag, admitted.

“I’m the first person to say, OK, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.”

“I obviously had really innocent intentions. But, let’s listen. And I want to really listen. And I want to really take it all in.”

Kim went on to share her love for Japan, a place that she has previously spent time with both her family and her husband Kanye.

“I do love Japan,” she said.

“My husband was in Japan when all of this was happening. It’s a place that we love and go to. I have such respect.”

Kim decided to get rid of the name after listening to her followers, and after Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa posted an open letter online asking that the business mogul consider a new name.

“I am writing this letter to convey our thoughts on Kimono and ask you to re-consider your decision of using the name Kimono in your trademark,” Kadokawa wrote.

“Kimono is a traditional ethnic dress fostered in our rich nature and history with our predecessors’ tireless endeavors and studies, and it is a culture that has been cherished and passed down with care in our living.”

“Also, it is a fruit of craftsmanship and truly symbolizes sense of beauty, spirits and values of Japanese.”

Kim thanked her fans for bringing their thoughts to her attention regarding the name.
