Katy Perry has been ordered to pay a Christian rapper $550,000 of her own earnings from her hit song Dark Horse, which was released back in 2013.

The gospel artist, who performs under the name Flame, sued the star and her record label for copying one of his own songs – and he was awarded $2.7m in damages.

Capitol Records will have to pay most of the total amount, but Katy has been asked to fork out $550k.

Flame claimed that ‘Dark Horse’ “copied an important part” of one of his songs, and he originally argued that he was owed $20 million.

His attorney Michael Kahn said in court: “These defendants made millions and millions of dollars from their infringement of the plaintiffs’ song.”

However, when Katy gave evidence during the trial, she insisted that she had never heard Flame’s song Joyful Noise before recording Dark Horse with producers Dr Luke, Max Martin and Cirkut.
