Kanye West apologises for comments about slavery

The rapper also addressed the backlash he received for wearing a MAGA hat

Kanye West has apologised for comments he made about slavery earlier this year.

The controversial rapper caused outrage during an interview with TMZ, in which he claimed that slavery was “a choice”.

He said: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years?! That sounds like a choice. We’re mentally imprisoned.”

Naturally, his comments sparked serious backlash, and he’s since admitted that he never properly apologised for his actions.

Speaking to Chicago radio station 107.5 WGCI, the father-of-three said: “I have never really approached or addressed the slavery comment fully.”

“And it’s not something for me to overly intellectualise. This is something about the fact that it hurt people’s feelings and the way that I presented that piece of information.”

Kanye apologised for the way he expressed himself, but explained that he was “ramped up” at the time.

The rapper also addressed the backlash he received when he publicly wore a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat.

Kanye riled fans when he posted a picture of himself on Twitter wearing a red MAGA cap, having previously voiced his support for US President Donald Trump.

He added: “I’m sorry for the one-two effect of the MAGA hat into the slave comment, and I’m sorry for people that felt let down by that moment.”
